      • As for the shows, Shinsekai Yori has a higher rating on MAL than Standalone Complex does, and from my perspective it deserves to. They’re both philosophical contemplative shows, but SSY goes a little deeper, trods a little bit fresher ground than SAC’s stale cyberpunk plotlines, and compromises itself a little less for the sake of action.

As for the songs (which is what we really ought to be voting for), it’s hard for anything to beat that tense, halting guitar evoking the trembling bravery of the lyrics. Inner Universe isn’t even in Japanese, what the heck? This is an anime music tourney, you know. May as well vote for Roundabout.

        • Calling SAC stale is like calling Casablanca “cliche.” I think it says more about you than about the works you are talking about.

Another example is being able to ignore the metric ton of production problems and plot/pacing issues with adopting the novels into anime. I think Shinsekai Yori is good too, but it simply doesn’t have the same wide appeal nor would it stand to the test of time as well as Ghost in the Shell SAC IMO.

        • As for the song, Inner Universe is how you do epic without that bullship that is your average Kokia song or ugh, my most favorite track of the tournament.

        • And yes I did vote for Roundabout (at least once?). I am not sure why YES matters in what you think is anime music (what is anime music anyway)

Also I am severely disappointed at the full-size version of Wareta Ringo. It just … sucks because it’s like too much of a good thing and now it’s just long and i would rather just loop the TV cut.

Actually, I wouldn’t even do that. I’d just watch the ED, since it went with the visuals very well.

        • Blade Runner had been out for 20 years by the time Standalone Complex came out. I’m not saying it was bad, just that it wasn’t blazing as much of a new trail as Shinsekai Yori.

I’m sorry, what? Want to know what you’re definition of “anime music” is then. Like omo, I feel like the full version of Wareta Ringo doesn’t expand the initial theme heard in the TV version well. Inner Version mixes things up and builds up nicely, in my opinion. It’s a song that I thought was going to be hard to beat, and by a song “better” than Wareta Ringo, to be frank.

        • Comparing Standalone complex with Blade Runner is like comparing airplanes with space shuttles. Did you even understand what the story for the series is >_>

A better comparison is Ghost in the Shell Movie 1, not Stand Alone Complex.

  2. My ability to vote for the losing track has gone past the impressive to the downright freaky.
A bit shocked that “Inner Universe” lost. At one point I was certain it would win.
